Happy Birthday Thinlit

Nice to have you visit today.

This was quite an easy card to make, there was very little stamping and loads of die cutting.

The color theory DSP was used as a base for the card.

I die cut two happy birthdays to give the sentiment a bit of shadow one in dapper denim and the second one with whisper white card which had been sponged with Marina Mist ink, I quite liked the graduated shading and was pleased with the outcome.

Don't you just love using the stitched shapes and layering framelits together they're always my go to for making things stand out, and the faux stitching gives that added dimension I like.

For the "Son" I used scrap pieces of whisper white and dapper denim placed on a strip of card.

The materials used are:
(r) = retired, (nsu) = not stampin’ up

Card stock: Dapper Denim, Thick Whisper White, Whisper White
Ink: Dapper Denim, Marina Mist
DSP: Color Theory
Stamp sets: Thoughtful Banners
Framelits: Layering squares, Stitched Shapes
Thinlits: Happy Birthday

Will be back again soon with more cards

Fidget Spinner

Hello and welcome, I wasn't sure about making this card but so glad I did as my nephew Jack was so impressed with it it was the first thing he showed people when they came with cards and presents. "Mum" wasn't amused as she'd spent a fortune on an Xbox game for him. He even took it to school to show class mates.

I came across a video on how to make the spinner (which does spin) on Youtube and decided to make one for him, but then I hit problems. I couldn't get my hands on one, my grandchildren all had them some time ago, so asked my daughter if I could borrow one to make a template but she said they'd all got broken (my little lovelies, are not very toy friendly) so then the hunt for a fidget spinner began.  It took me over a month to find one, but it was well worth it when my sister told me how much he liked it.

As you can see I'm not good at fussy cutting but he didn't look to closely at the edges it seems, and the rest was quite easy to do.

If you go to Youtube and type in bettysstampingcrazy fidget spinner it's the first video that comes up.

Daisy Delight

This is an easy card to make and didn't take long to do. Most of what I've used is in the current annual catalogue.

I just loved the vellum daisy with the leaf behind it from the flourish thinlit set. I also thought cutting across background at an angle made a nice change and finishing it off with some linen thread.

The materials used are:
Card stock: Powder Pink, Whisper White, Vellum,Wild Wasabi
Ink: Berry Burst, Powder Pink
DSP: In Color 17/9
Stamp sets: Avant Garden (r), Daisy Delight
Embossing folders: Petal Burst
Framelits: Layering Ovals, Stitched Shapes
Thinlits: Flourish
Punches: Daisy
Ribbon: Taffeta Pink Pirouette (r)
Accessories: Linen Thread

Milestone Birthday

Missing A Big One

My Aunt came to visit me the other day and I was so glad she did, as she started  talking about her sister in laws big birthday coming up!! I'd made her a lovely card but it wasn't a big one, so oh heck!! here I go, what can I do for her. After Sheilah had gone I went into my craft room and started to rummage around and couldn't think of anything so I went to bed.

Next day I needed to get it done as her birthday was close. I looked at the large number and dies and then the milestone moments came to mind and that was it my idea came alive pretty quickly.

When I die cut the two numbers I wasn't happy with them as the stamping was a bit patchy then I had a light bulb moment and grabbed my old faithful embossing folder and all was saved. Sorry for the use of retired products, but I'm sure you could adjust the colour scheme to suit your own preferences.

The materials used are:
Card stock: Coastal cabana (r), whisper white
Ink: Coastal cabana (r)
DSP: 2013/5 In colors (r)
Stamp sets: Milestone moments, number of years
Embossing folders: Perfect polka dots (r),  Seaside
Framelits: Large numbers
Thinlits: Happy Birthday
Ribbon: Glitter (r)
Accessories: Lace doilies (r), white perfect accents

Happy crafting

Magical Mermaid

Mermaids Are So Magical

The card I have chosen for today is one I made some time ago.  It was a stamp set I wasn't going to get until my granddaughter started going on about mermaids all the the time. So I thought hey ho it will be worth getting if she likes her card and she did.

It was quite easy to make the hardest part being the colouring in of the mermaid which I did in a combination of colours for the tail with blushing bride for the bottom of the tail and for her back I used the retired blendabilities (yes mine still work) for her back and arm.

The dazzling diamonds hasn't really shown up in this picture but I just put a few spots of glue across the bottom where the shells and so forth are and then added the dazzling diamonds.

The materials used are:
Card stock: shimmery white, versamark, whisper white
Ink: Old olive, pool party, sahara sand
Markers: Berry burst, blushing bride, crushed curry, fresh fig, so saffron
Stamp sets: label me pretty, magical mermaid
Embossing folders: ruffed
Embossing powders: clear, copper
Punches: pretty label

Accessories: dazzling diamonds, tombow glue

Sweet & Simple

Clean and Bright

This card was made some time ago, as you can see it uses one of the Sale-a-bration stamps from 2017. I'm showing it as you could easily swap out what I used for newer products.

Well a couple of things went wrong with this card, first the embossing was a little off  so I had to add some ribbon to hide the gap, but then the only ribbon I had was not the right colour so I used my Melon Mambo blendabilities pens to darken it up before adding the silver ribbon.

I tried the stamping and then layering technique and found it looked very pretty and I just love the combination of the stitched shapes and layering framelits which gives your projects just that little bit more dimension.

The materials used are:
Card stock: whisper white, Melon Mambo
Ink: Basic Black, Melon Mambo, Old Olive
DSP: Sunshine & Sprinkles (retired)
Stamp sets: Avant Garden (SAB)
Embossing folders: Petal Burst
Ribbon: Glitter Blushing Bride (retired), silver (SAB), Taffeta (retired)
Framelits: Layering Ovals, Stitched Shapes
Accessories: Wink of Stella

Graduation Congratulations

Congrats Ash On your Masters

A couple of weeks ago it was my friends Son's graduation and he did very well. She used to make her own cards but since starting work has found it difficult, so she asked me to do one for her. I didn't have a clue what to do but I know he got a 1st so this is what I came up with.

She was thrilled with it and I just hope he liked it too.

To do the hat I first punched out a best badge and cut it down with a slight angle, next I punched out a tree, turned it round and pushed again taking the trunk off and giving me a diamond shape, for the tassle I used DMC thread.

Sorry there's a lot of retired items used but it was how it came together. I'm sure it could be done with more up to date items but I was under pressure to get it done ASAP as she needed it a couple of days later.

The materials used are:
(r) = retired, (nsu) = not stampin’ up

Card stock: Crushed curry, elegant eggplant, whisper white
Ink: black tuxedo (memento), elegant eggplant versaMark
DSP: It’s my party (r)
Stamp sets: Blue ribbon (r), number of years, sky is the limit (r), Teeny tiny sentiments
Embossing folders: sparkle
Embossing powders: Black (r)
Framelits: Layering circles, large numbers, stitched shapes
Punches: Best badge, tree (r), classic label, modern label (r)
Accessories: bakers twine (r), DMC thread (nsu)

Fathers Day Rainbow

Just For Dad

I was going for something quite simple this year for dad's card and this is what I came up with.

First I created the background with what I call the colour swipe technique (not too sure what's it's really called). Then I stamped the tree and thought it was a bit to low so added the birds from the retired up up and away stamp set. After that I stamped the sentiment and die cut it with the banner from the cup cake cutouts die set. All complete within about half an hour.

I've made my dad a few cards over the years but this year was the first time he looked at it and said it was very nice.

The materials used are:
Card stock: Very vanilla
Ink: Early espresso, Crushed curry, rose red, soft sky, so saffron, wild wasabi
Markers: Garden green
Stamp sets: Guy greetings, lovely as a tree, up up and away (retired)
Framelits: Cup cake cutouts

Just a note

Eastern Beauty Note Card

Well I just couldn't wait to get my hands on this set along with all the goodies that came with it. So ordered early and then wasn't able to play with it for a while. Once I did I just love it and hope it stays for next year too.

This is the first thing I did with them.  Used the small note cards and placed a strip of DSP down the lefthand side, then scored at one eighth intervals down the righthand side to give  it some dimension, Die cut 2 of the medallions and placed a gold sticker on the smaller one (next time I think I might place the sticker before die cutting as it took me ages to line it up. Add a tassel (think these are great), stamped the sentiment on Very Vanilla card stock and die cut using the stitched shapes ovals then layered that over a scalloped oval. Used some of the sale-abrations ribbon to anchor the medallion.

The materials used are:
Card stock: Fresh fig, very vanilla
Card base: Note cards (white)
Ink: Fresh fig, VersaMark
DSP: Eastern Palace
Stamp sets: Eastern beauty, flourishing phrases
Embossing powders: Clear
Framelits:Layering ovals, stitched shapes
Thinlits: Eastern medallions

Accessories: Eastern gold vinyl stickers, metallic ribbon (sab), scoreboard

Birthday Greetings

Clean and Simple

I've been away on holiday for a couple of weeks and only remembered when I got back that I needed a couple of cards the next day so today I've made a card that uses old and about to be old products, the only thing still in the catalogue except for the card stock and ink is the banner triple punch. I'm sad to see the Hello you thinlits leave the catalogue. I use them a lot and will miss them.

The card is easy and simple to do and was put together in just a few minutes. Which was good as I needed to make two of them. Men really stump me unless they have an interest which can be used such as photography or fishing.

The materials used are:
Card stock: Night of Navy, Whisper White
Ink: Night of Navy
DSP: Carried Away
Stamp sets: Party Wishes (retired)
Thinlits: Hello You
Punches: Banner Triple
Accessories: Grosgrain Ribbon (retired)

Detailed Dragonfly meets Rose Garden

Sweet Sugarplum Treat

I did something I've never done before for this card. First I picked an embossing folder, then a stamp set followed by a set of dies and a pack of DSP. Laid them out on the table and low and behold this is what I created.  As I've never tried this method of card making before I was pleased with the outcome. Might try the same method for a male card next time so keep watching.

Just for a change everything is available now and in the up coming catalogue due out next month except for the DSP that will retire on 31st May.

The materials used are:
Card stock: Shimmery White, Soft Sky, Sweet Sugarplum, Vellum

Tangerine Tango Horizontal Lines

Birthday Boy

Well I'm getting cards made but not finding the time to get them on the blog lately.
My daughter has be very poorly in hospital so there has been visits to see her and helping out with her 3 younger children (they're a right handful all together) but lovely to have.

I went for a retro look for Stephens card and was quite pleased with the finished card. The only problem was apart from the colours everything has been retired for some time. But you have to use it up or it's not cost effective.

The materials used are:
Card stock: Tangerine Tango, Whisper White
Ink: Tangerine Tango
Markers: Tangerine Tango
Stamp sets: Sassy Salutations (retired)
Accessories: Candy Dots (retired), Scoreboard, Washi Tape (retired)

Vertically Chalenged Oops

Weather's a bit overcast today and it's trying to rain but I hope it clears up soon as I'm going out to lunch today with my friend Judy. Well as you can see I made  this card for another dear friend of mine who had a birthday last week.
I bought this stamp set a while ago and forgot all about it, so thought I would use it for her card.
After I'd finished it and put it in the post I looked at the photograph I'd taken and wished I'd stepped it up a little, maybe used a simple embossing folder for the main part and banners for the sentiment.

The materials used are:
Card stock: Blushing Bride, Whisper White
Ink: Blushing Bride, Mint Macaron, Rose Red
Stamp sets: Bloomin’ Love, Vertical Greetings
Framelits: Bitty Banners (retired)
Accessories: Sequin Trim, Solid Bakers Twine

Teenage star

Number of Years meets T Shirt

As you can see this is for a football fanatic, and his team are the VILLA well we can't have it all, can we. I never know what to do for boys (big & small) they're a nightmare but I do keep trying.

Hope my nephew liked it.

Ink: Marina Mist

Sealed With Love & More

Not Quite A One

Well when I saw the Sealed with love bundle I wasn't going to get it but then I remembered that I'd want something special for next year as it will be our 25th. Or 30th if you count the years we've been together.

So I purchased it and then felt I needed to get my moneys worth out of it so used some of the lovely little sayings for this years card.

Roy's only comment was "there's a lot of black" so much for all my hard work.

Birthday Blooms

Soft and Beautiful

I enjoyed making this card, it was so simple and came together quickly. Considering when I came into the craft room I had no idea what I was going to do.

I'm still trying to use up some of my retired goodies and thought the doily could be quite easily replaced with the current doilies in this years catalogue.  There a loads of happy birthday stamps but I just love this one so keep going back to it.

The flourish thinlits are fantastic,I just love the open leaf effect.  And the triple banner punch is great if you are not good at fishtailing (which I'm not).

Hope you like this card and it's a good one for beginners to start with as there is plenty to do but none of it is hard.

The materials used are:
